Prompt Structure Sections
- Objective: Clearly state what you want to achieve. Keep it concise (2-3 lines) but specific enough to guide the AI's understanding.
- Structure: Describe your technical environment - frameworks, languages, file structure, or any architectural patterns relevant to the task.
- Tasks: Break down the work into clear, actionable steps. This helps the AI understand the sequence and scope of work needed.
- Output Requirements: Define exactly what you expect - code format, documentation style, file types, quality standards, etc.
- Notes: Include any constraints, preferences, edge cases, or additional context that doesn't fit in other sections.
Best Practices
- Be specific and detailed - more context leads to better AI responses
- Use bullet points or numbered lists for tasks and requirements
- Include relevant technical details like version numbers or specific libraries
- Mention any constraints or limitations upfront
- Review and refine your prompt before using it with an AI
Use Cases
- Creating prompts for coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude)
- Documenting requirements for development tasks
- Preparing detailed instructions for team collaboration
- Standardizing prompt formats across your organization
- Building a library of reusable prompt templates
